It’s always nice to be complimented
Yesterday I met an old customer purely by chance and after a brief chat it transpired they now had another child and it would be good to get some more pictures, excellent news! The best bit by far though, was that they had been to another photographer and the results didn’t have the same quality as those I had done for them, according to him my pictures had a ‘magazine’ quality to them. Brilliant! I’m not saying I do anything special to my pictures; I do however go through every single one before it goes online or out to print and I’m fastidious about ensuring I get the best quality I can.
For me it was the best sort of compliment I could get and to be honest I think I’ve improved a lot of my techniques since I last shot him and his family.
Cheers!
January 2010
I’m recovering from the rush of work before Christmas and catching up on a lot of necessary paperwork. I’ll be posting new work very soon as well as developing a new version of the website!
I recently ordered a new macro lens and I’m looking forward to trying out some close-up photography in the coming weeks as I wait for the weather to improve.
I’ve also been talking with a summer bride about the possibility of shooting a Trash The Dress (TTG) session after their wedding at the end of July, I hope that we can come up with something cool!
Thanks for dropping in, I hope that the festive season was good and that the weather hasn’t caused you too many problems. More next time.
Cheers!
Family snaps at Christmas
There’s something about the warm autumn we’ve had and my belligerent denial of anything remotely ‘Christmassy’ appearing in shops since the sun was shining and the temperature was still in the 20’s that means the the real Christmas tends to creep up and surprise me! This weekend I finally woke up to the idea that it’s under three weeks to run and I’ve done precious little preparation! Brilliant.
This weekend we finally replaced our aging artificial tree with a spangly new one, lights and all. It’s very glam and fits in our room better than before. Sam and Max enjoyed getting the decorations out and helped to trim the tree. We had some festive tunes on the iPod and I even found myself getting into the spirit!
A few snaps of the activities:

Woodland play
Yesterday we went to Dunston Common to blow away the cobwebs and get the kids up and about. It’s a super little woodland with several carved wooden ’sound sculptures’ – big carvings which you can bash with the attached stick to get different sounds, there’s even an outdoor xylophone!
Needless to say I went equipped with camera and flash gear and I convinced Nicky to be my “voice activated lightstand” (VAL) toting a flash and brolly setup mounted on a monopod – We played around with power settings and got used to where the light needed to be then I dialled the ambient light up and down with the shutter speed. It’s a really good way to create fluid, well-lit pictures on the run and we got a lot of lovely images for Nicky to scrap.
Here are a few:
Liz and James
My family holiday got in the way of sorting out Liz and James’ photos. So without further ado here’s a small gallery of images, in no particular order, from their big day, enjoy.
