Norwich Triathlon 2011 – Photos!

Me and my colleague Jez were at Norwich Tri on Sunday shooting on behalf of the organising club, Tri-Anglia.

We found identifying the competitors challenging, especially on the swim and bike legs so concentrated on the run. If you were there, congratulations and I hope you find a photo in our gallery!

Winter Walk

We dragged the kids away from the television yesterday and went for lunch at Zaks on Mousehold Heath in Norwich. Then, after stuffing ourselves silly, we went for a walk around the heath and I dragged a camera and flash around to see what we could capture. These are my favourites.

Today was class assembly at school. Obviously I’m expected to take a camera, school are fine with it, so I roll in with a 5D with the massive 70-200 F2.8 hanging off the front, hardly an unobtrusive beast; not something to be shy about! Now, the Head is a friend of mine and he’s a photographer too; he tells me of his plans for one of the notice boards in the corridor – a day in the life of school – and he’s keen to populate it today. Obviously, he’s working and I’m not so could I shoot some pictures with his camera too, just as a record.

So, there I am amongst a load of other parents, two big old cameras on the go, snapping alternately at the assembly as it unfolds. All good, no drama.

Then, right at the end he drops a bomb on me – could I ‘just’ take a picture of the class who just presented the assembly; his camera, no light, parents all around, right now. So, what can you do? I stood up, tried my best to coral the kids into three rows and banged off four or five frames. Not my best work by any means, probably not my worst either. Fun in retrospect!

Janey and Chris

Back at the end of September I covered Janey and Chris’ wedding in Catton, Norwich. The weather did its level best to spoil the day, blowing in squally showers every few minutes interspersed by bright sunshine but it didn’t matter, the couple had a great day. I’ve got a full gallery going online shortly for them. Here are just a few of the highlights, in no particular order…

I’ve been very remiss over the summer and haven’t kept anything on here up to date; Rest assured, I have slapped myself firmly on the wrists and will attempt to rectify things from now on. I’ll be posting about a recent wedding shortly, and then I’ll start working on pictures from last weekend. Stay tuned!

Deb and Stuart

On Saturday I kicked off my wedding season under blue skies in Acle. I was there to photograph Deb and Stuart’s wedding at the Amber Lodge hotel. A lovely, informal and relaxed day and some great pictures. Here are just four to whet your appetite.

Yesterday I met an old customer purely by chance and after a brief chat it transpired they now had another child and it would be good to get some more pictures, excellent news! The best bit by far though, was that they had been to another photographer and the results didn’t have the same quality as those I had done for them, according to him my pictures had a ‘magazine’ quality to them. Brilliant! I’m not saying I do anything special to my pictures; I do however go through every single one before it goes online or out to print and I’m fastidious about ensuring I get the best quality I can.
For me it was the best sort of compliment I could get and to be honest I think I’ve improved a lot of my techniques since I last shot him and his family.

I’m recovering from the rush of work before Christmas and catching up on a lot of necessary paperwork. I’ll be posting new work very soon as well as developing a new version of the website!

I recently ordered a new macro lens and I’m looking forward to trying out some close-up photography in the coming weeks as I wait for the weather to improve.

I’ve also been talking with a summer bride about the possibility of shooting a Trash The Dress (TTG) session after their wedding at the end of July, I hope that we can come up with something cool!

Family snaps at Christmas

There’s something about the warm autumn we’ve had and my belligerent denial of anything remotely ‘Christmassy’ appearing in shops since the sun was shining and the temperature was still in the 20′s that means the the real Christmas tends to creep up and surprise me! This weekend I finally woke up to the idea that it’s under three weeks to run and I’ve done precious little preparation! Brilliant.

This weekend we finally replaced our aging artificial tree with a spangly new one, lights and all. It’s very glam and fits in our room better than before. Sam and Max enjoyed getting the decorations out and helped to trim the tree. We had some festive tunes on the iPod and I even found myself getting into the spirit!
